I was raised as most Americans were, trying to make the healthiest choices possible, but not really knowing exactly what healthy choices really were. I thought eating whole wheat pasta, drinking skim milk and trying to keep my carb intake low was pretty healthy. I was proud of my ability to skip desserts (most of the time) and eat salads for lunch. I had no idea that true health is so much more than simply the lack of disease. I had some strange ailments that bothered me from time to time – vertigo, GERD and persistent back/neck pain, but I never considered them to be serious health issues.
Once I had my first child, I got a glimpse into the importance of true health. She suffered from frequent colds and congestion. She would be sick 2 weeks, healthy a few days, then sick all over again. She had frequent belly aches and dark circles under her eyes. My heart ached to help her, but none of the doctors thought anything was wrong with her. They told me this was just how it was going to be for her. I refused to believe that my sweet little girl had to live like this.
I decided enough was enough, and enrolled at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. I was going to become a Certified Health Coach and help my little girl get healthy! And guess what? I DID!!! I had no idea that attending this school would be SO life changing. Not just for myself, but for my entire family as well. The education I received transformed me on many levels. Not just physically through nutrition, but mentally as well. I have become a more patient, well rounded and balanced woman, mother and wife. I have so much more appreciation for good health and happiness than I ever did before. I am able to slow down, smell the roses and appreciate the little things in life.
My transformation was so incredible, I simply had to share this gift with others. I decided to open my own practice as a Certified Health Coach and founded Get Real Wellness. My slogan is “Real People, Real Solutions, Real Results.” I promise to always keep it real with my clients! Nothing brings me more joy than seeing my clients cry tears of joy from the transformations they have seen in their life. Being a vehicle for change is pretty amazing stuff. My daughter’s health issues were a heartbreaking experience, but I wouldn’t change it for anything. She is now a happy, healthy little girl, and our entire family has benefitted so much from this journey to better health.
