Anti-Aging Essential Oils

As with most health issues, prevention is key when it comes to youthful aging. If you treat your skin right starting at a young age, it will be much easier to maintain than if you abuse it and then try to repair it. One of the least expensive and most natural ways to support your skin is with essential oils. They can be easily purchased online or through distributors and there are a variety of types of oils that can be used on the skin for anti-aging.

It is important when using essential oils that you ensure that you are using therapeutic grade oils. Some of the very inexpensive brands you may see in stores are diluted or impure. Be sure to research brands yourself or ask a knowledgeable acquaintance before selecting a brand.

Now you may be wondering what essential oils should you use to help support your skin and slow down the aging process? Below are a few of my favorites:

Frankincense Oil

Frankincense is know for reducing the appearance of sunspots, age spots and uneven color on your skin. It helps protect skin cells, reduce acne blemishes and diminish large pores and wrinkles. It can help to strengthen the skin, repair cells and improve elasticity. It has also been shown to help reduce stretch marks, scars and minor wounds. When using Frankincense, be sure to dilute the oil in a carrier oil, such as olive oil, coconut oil or jojoba oil (about 6 drops of Frankincense to 1 ounce of carrier oil).

Lavender Oil

Lavender is one of the MOST popular oils used in skincare. Not only does it have powerful healing properties, but it also helps specifically target skin cells and improve their health. Lavender is also antimicrobial and an anti-oxidant so when you mix it with aloe vera or coconut oil as a carrier, it amplifies the soothing effect and can be particularly helpful for dry skin, sunburn or minor scrapes. For an added boost, mix lavender and frankincense together in a carrier oil to soothe and repair your skin – apply in the AM after your shower and at bedtime after washing your face for optimum results.

Geranium Oil

Geranium oil helps normalize the production of sebum in the skin and helps diminish age spots on your face. It can help reduce wrinkles and fine lines, as well as improve elasticity and boost circulation to the areas where it is applied. Be sure to mix with a carrier oil such as coconut oil or olive oil before applying to the face, morning and evening.

MOST importantly, be sure to drink PLENTY of water and eat a healthy, clean diet in order to best support that youthful glow in your skin!
